Anime Wasabi Report!

Well, back from AW, and (almost) recovered! Of course, planning for the Anime Wasabi cosplay had been going on for the three weeks prior, after the DCCS was asked for help. Cosplay preregistration had closed on Tuesday, and I spent the rest of the week getting paperwork printed and organized, much to our benefit (although next year I'd like to just fill out the forms actually ON a computer... my handwriting is terrible).

Anyway, here's how it went down...

...and dyed my hair. I dressed in my Paprika costume and got goin! XD I went at noon to pick up the ever-illustrious Eurobeat King Al from the airport, promptly missed the exit to the hotel, and finally got turned around and went to lunch with Al. XD

Upon arriving at the hotel about 1pm, there were apparently already questions about the cosplay for me. I met up with the con chair, Hightower, and proceeded to dive into the dealer's room for donations while I had time to kill before sign in started.

Sign in started at 5pm and I was joined by Christine and then Dahlia. Christine and I got most of our check ins, and I scheduled the craftsmanship participants for judging the next day. We were done at 7pm, grabbed some dinner, I had to go back to my house because I'd left all my shoes, clothes, and toiletries at home, because I'm retarded. So Christine took a ride with me, then we came back and I did paperwork until midnight, when we went to bed.

...and we started it early. My roomies made a coffee run while I stayed behind to pack up my papers and get dressed, and at 10 it was off for the last hours of sign in for the cosplay. Christine joined me shortly, and we added some folks for craftsmanship and the fashion show. We ended up with somewhere around 50 entries all told for craftsmanship, skits, and fashion show by the time check-in was done.

We got lunch going, and I met up with Becca and Nick for craftsmanship judging. We usurped the video room for about three hours, and got just about everyone in and through who checked in! A few folks missed judging at all, and I think some missed check in, but they mostly got in by the fashion show way, so that worked out.

Now, this is the first judging I've done, as well as the organization, and I pity every judge I've ever stepped in front of. This is a HARD JOB. Judging was absolutely more difficult than the planning. The cosplayers were really outstanding, and we saw so much amazing, challenging work. On top of that, everyone was really nice, and very patient.

Working with Becca on this was especially great, as she's really got a wealth of experience and knowledge, and I basically couldn't have done it without her. ^^

So we got a take a break before the actual cosplay, then I went to the green room to get things rolling. Sam already had it well in hand, Becca N. got out the big guns and got some water going for everyone, and Sam, Nathan, and Josh kept everyone happy in the green room. Christine even got to give an impromptu stage presence lesson. ^^

From 5:15 to 6 was about the craziest hour of the con, getting things settled and in place for the contest. Nick had to wing it with the sound guys, but it worked out fantastically, and getting the guest judges settled in worked well, too.

Once we got started it just... went! And went great! Everyone enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the cosplayers, especially us. Dahlia and Animo did some fantastic emcee'ing, they came off very composed, but funny and charming, too.

Afterwards we finalized the judging and printed the award certificates in con ops, and while the printer was particularly stubborn, we managed to make it though, and came back to present all the awards and honor our cosplayers.

We finished WAY ahead of schedule. ^^

All together, the con and the cosplay really turned out to be a big success, and I'm really proud of the DCCS and all the cosplayers for working so hard, and making such a great event. ^^

HAD SO MUCH FUN, OMG.

I'll update with the ONE NEW COSTUME I did later this week. ^^

Cosplay stuff!

Too much jewelry spam, not enough cosplay. XD I swear I'll post more. XD Sorry.

Anyway, it's the week leading up to Anime Wasabi, it's first year in Denver, and I'm really looking forward to it! The DCCS is sponsoring/organizing the cosplay events this year, too! We're hoping to make a great impression and a wonderful experience for everyone who comes by! Today and Tuesday are the last days to preregister, expecially for skits! There will be spaces open on site for Fashion Show and Craftsmanship walk-ons, but skits MUST be preregistered!

I'm really excited to be getting into costume for the first time this year, too! Paprika will be my only new one, to be worn on Friday, but I'll be bringing out Nausicaa and Ahiru for wearing on Saturday and Sunday, too!

So, I thought I'd pass on the news that I wasn't accepted to JET this year. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm also really okay with it, as I'll be able to remain close to my friends and family, and I'll be here for some pretty important things I may have missed otherwise!

So, the schedule is changing up a bit! Since I will be here for NDK in September, I'll be doing Princess Peach with sapphic_lens as Daisy, very possibly a Rinoa costume to join our FFVIII group, and.... goodness, a Sailormoon costume? HEAVENS. XD

I'm sure some things will get mixed up (I'd really like to add a Refia costume in there sometime since I've been so enjoying FFIII!), and who knows what else I'll get to do!

Everything else is going great; I've got a wonderful place to live with a good friend of mine, I started a fantastic new job last week, and I'm finally getting settled into the city. Pretty exciting stuff!

OMG a COSPLAY update?!?

Yes, really really! Now that I'm all graduated and moved and got a job and pretty much settled in, I'm ready to start thinking about the fun things again! Yay! Unfortunately, all of my cosplay stuff is in storage. ;_; So while I'm not actually sewing right now, I'm thinking really hard about upcoming stuff until I can go retrieve it. Yeah. Really, really hard. XD

So my biggest problem, as usual, is TOO MANY COSTUMES, NOT ENOUGH CON. I've got a lot of costumes I'd LOVE to wear again, and several new ones I'd like to get going on and debut while I'm at cons.

I'm hoping to get Sacrifice Deedlit finished up and worn to Anime Wasabi, here in Denver in March. They're a new con, so it should be a great time! Also planning on wearing Ahiru from Princess Tutu again... with the rest of the bunch, yes? ^^ I anticipate I'll be able to bust out Paprika for that, too.

So, I've got room reservations for Acen set (and boy howdy, do I have some awesome roommates), and I've got so many things that I COULD wear, but I'll focus on the things that will be new. I definitely want to have Esper Terra done (I've got all the wig stuff already, woo!). If time and finances work out right, I'm also hoping to get to Juliet's ball gown, with my Romeo, too! I've also agreed to be part of a Disney group as Giselle from Enchanted. XD LOL WAT.

The last and probably biggest project for Acen is a steampunk costume. I'm doing a "locks and keys" theme; before I moved I bought about a dozen old locks and any number of old keys on Ebay, and have been collecting bits of fabric for the costume. I'm really excited about this one!

I can bring just about any of the old ones I like, and I'm leaning toward Deedlit, Ahiru, Juliet, and Paprika (excellent Sunday wearer!). But who knows!

I'm looking into getting a table in Artist Alley at Anime Wasabi to sell jewelry and accessories... I'll see how that goes!

Jewelry party aftermath!

sapphic_lens hosted a jewelry party for me at her home this weekend! It went really well, and we had a great time!

So I made this cardboard sculpture in my art studio, and I thought it'd make a good jewelry display... I guess I was right, everyone thought it was so cool! =D

(This is one of my new things with little word tags... More info on them to come!)

Some of the other displays were made up with cardboard boxes. ^^ They have pins in them to hold the jewelry... all my displays are cheap. =p

I also covered every available surface in sapphic_lens' living room with jewelry. XD

(My only "real" display boards. XD)

(More cheap displays... these little clear boxes worked really well for hanging earrings off of ^^)

And sapphic_lens MADE SNAAAAAAAAAACKS!

I'm graduating in just TWO WEEKS now, and I'm in talks with a fellow in the city who has studio space and time that I can use... so hopefully I can keep up with my metalworking!
